Where and how core drill bits are used in practice
Core drill bits are used for tasks where a precise larger-diameter hole must be created without disturbing the surrounding material. Typically, these are situations where conventional drilling would be slow, inaccurate or would lead to cracking of concrete or masonry.
In practice, they are mainly used for:
- creating penetrations for electrical installations, water, heating and ventilation systems,
- drilling holes for pipes, cable bundles and technological distribution lines,
- subsequent building modifications during renovations,
- professional use in construction, installations and technical service.
Thanks to the non-hammer drilling principle, they are also suitable where controlled work with minimal vibration transfer is required, for example in finished structures or indoors.
How to work with core drill bits
Core drill bits are designed for professional use and require appropriate equipment. They are used exclusively without hammer action, with stable guidance and continuous water cooling.
For the work you need:
- a core drill machine or a drill designed for core drilling,
- stable guidance of the drill bit (for larger diameters usually a stand),
- a secured water supply for cooling and flushing out drilled material.
During use, they must be water-cooled. Cooling ensures stable drilling performance, reduces tool overheating and at the same time flushes drilled material away from the cutting area.
Core drill bits are also suitable for drilling into reinforced concrete. When contacting reinforcement, there is no impact load on the material – the rebar is smoothly cut through by the diamond segment. In these areas it is necessary to reduce pressure and maintain a calm, even drilling process.
Core drill bits cannot be used in combination with SDS-max, SDS-plus hammers or other hammer drills. There is no adapter that would allow their correct and safe use in this type of tool. The hammer mechanism is incompatible with the principle of core drilling and leads to damage to both the tool and the material.
Core drilling is therefore mainly suitable for construction companies, installation work and technical service where the appropriate equipment is available and there is experience with this drilling method.
How is the category further divided
In this category, the selection is intentionally simple. The core of the range consists of standard core drill bits for non-hammer drilling with water cooling, covering common use in construction and installation work.
When choosing, you mainly focus on:
- the required hole diameter you need to drill.
The range also includes modular core drill bits, which are now available only as clearance stock. This is a fully functional solution, however we are not expanding this type further.
After selecting the group, you then continue directly by choosing the appropriate diameter.
