In this category you will find chisels designed for demolition and chiselling work in masonry and concrete – from light adjustments to more demanding construction interventions.

How to choose the right tool for demolition and chiselling

The basic decision always starts with the type of hammer and its shank system. First you choose according to the machine you have available, and only then according to the chisel shape.

SDS-plus (smaller hammers)

suitable for lighter demolition and chiselling work,
chiselling installation channels in masonry,
removing plaster, adhesives and tiles,
smaller interventions during flat and house renovations.

SDS-max (heavier hammers, approx. 5 kg and more)

designed for more demanding work,
breaking concrete and thick masonry,
chiselling floors, foundations and massive structures,
long-term and intensive demolition.

A smaller SDS-plus hammer can handle common tasks around electrical installations or bathrooms, but it is not suitable for continuous demolition of concrete or floors. For such work, a heavier hammer with the SDS-max system is required.

Where and how demolition and chiselling is used in practice

Chiselling tools are used for a wide range of construction and renovation work, for example:

cutting channels for cables and pipes in walls,
removing old plaster, adhesives and tiles,
adjusting openings, edges and corners,
demolishing concrete and masonry during rebuilds.

There is also a difference in where the chiselling is done:

chiselling walls tends to be more precise and less demanding on the structure,
chiselling floors requires higher impact energy and more stable tool guidance, which is why SDS-max hammers are used more often here.

How to work with tools for demolition and chiselling

Chiselling tools work on the principle of impact blows, not rotation like drill bits. The hammer’s energy is transferred directly into the point or edge of the chisel, which breaks up or chips away the material.

Depending on the type of work, different chisel shapes are used:

pointed chisels (points) – for concentrated breaking of concrete or masonry,
flat chisels – for removing material and levelling surfaces,
wide / spade chisels – typically for plaster, adhesives and tiles,
channel chisels – for creating installation channels.

In practice, you may also encounter the term oškrt, which is used for flat chiselling.

Practical and safety principles are also part of the work:

use safety glasses, gloves and other personal protective equipment,
do not force the tool – the hammer provides the impact work,
adjust the impact energy to the type of material,
check the condition of the chisel and its correct clamping.

Chiselling is not intended for precision work, and you must expect higher vibration and possible disturbance of the surrounding structure.

Which types of tools you can choose for demolition and chiselling

SDS-plus chisels – for lighter demolition and chiselling work with smaller hammers,
SDS-max chisels – for heavy demolition work and intensive load.

After selecting the correct shank system, you then choose the specific chisel shape according to the work you will be doing.
